Before shooting an important job, we recommend shooting a
test image for our Digital Camera 30x40 Test print. This test print
made on our photographic paper printers will illustrate to you what size,
quality, and color you can expect from Bullock Professional's real Endura
photographic printers. The FinePix S3 Pro features a 12.34 million
effective pixels Fujifilm Super CCD SR II image sensor designed specifically
for professional photography. It creates a wider dynamic range to produce
images that approach true photographic quality. As a result, the S3 Pro will
capture highlight and shadow detail often lost by digital cameras in high
contrast scenes. In addition, Super CCD SR sensor technology provides a
higher level of sensitivity, improved signal-to-noise ratio and more natural
color reproduction.
The S3 Pro was developed with significant improvements in versatility and
ease of use. Dual shutter release buttons are provided for both landscape
and portrait compositions, and dual LCD data displays confirm shooting
settings and composition at a glance, without the need to scroll through
menus. In addition, the body has been sculpted and rubberised to provide a
solid grip.
The S3 Pro makes full use of Fujifilm’s extensive color film expertise.
Rather than force photographers to shoot in RAW mode and spend time on an
extensive workflow process, Fujifilm has introduced Film Simulation Modes,
dynamic range presets and color space selection. Once the photographer is
familiar with these settings, they will be able to produce JPEG images
straight from the camera, which require no post-production. Photographers
can choose between smooth, extended tonality and natural skin tones, or the
dramatic impact of highly saturated color. The Film Simulation Mode is the
equivalent of changing film type to suit shooting conditions, and achieves
this at the touch of a button.
-
Use ISO 100 (We recommend using the lowest
ISO possible. Higher ISO settings will slightly increase digital "noise" in the
final enlarged images much like higher speed film creates grain.
-
Set the camera resolution to:
JPEG (Fine) Resolution: 4256x2848
-
Set Color Space to sRGB (Adobe isn't recommended due to
flatter color rendition.)
-
Perform a "Custom White Balance"
The Custom White Balance is set by shooting a
picture of a white card that fills the center circle on the viewfinder.
(See owner's manual for instructions.) You should keep this setting and
use it whenever you are in the studio with these lights. [If you are NOT
using studio lights, set White Balance to: "Auto".
-
Film Simulation: Standard, F1 (studio
portraits), F2 (outdoor scenics)
Note: When Film Simulation F1 or F2 is selected, the dynamic range,
color, tone or sharpness cannot be changed.
-
If not using Film Simulation
Mode set the following: Image Sharpening: Standard
/ Tone Compensation: Standard / Color Mode: Standard
-
Record these settings so you will always
know how your camera was set for the test print.
-
Setup for a vertical head and shoulders
shot in the studio under studio lighting.
-
Be sure camera is critically focused and
the exposure is perfect.
-
Take ONE shot of the subject at these
settings and copy it directly to a CD. (Do Not open or manipulate the file
in any way before sending.)
-
Place the CD in a Bullock Professional work
order envelope. Note on work order that this is for a "30x40 Digital
Camera Test".
-
We will print a 30x40 print that shows the
center strip of your image in 30x40, 24x30, 20x24, 16x20, 11x14, 8x10, and
5x7 print size.
-
Once you have your print back, you can
determine what size, color, and quality these settings will yield when
sending images to Bullock Digital for genuine photographic prints.
-
Once you receive and review your 30x40 DigiCam Test Print,
call Bullock if your image's quality is not to your liking.
Further tests may be necessary, however we're 100% confident that we can
help you make the necessary settings changes to yield the results you're
looking for.
-
Important - Once these settings are
established it is very important that you do not make changes unless you
run another Digital Camera Test Print and verify the new settings will
yield a satisfactory result!
