A few other
things need to be checked to
insure the monitor calibration profile is being used at startup and
isn't being changed by your imaging applications (like Photoshop):
-
Check your WinXP
Control Panel/Appearance and Themes/Display/Settings/Advanced/Color
Management tab to verify that your spyder's color profile is showing
up as the 'Default' profile when Windows starts
-
When your computer
starts, check to sure Adobe Gamma software isn't loading and
overriding the spyder's calibration monitor profile. Usually the
Startup Folder (for programs that launch automatically at startup)
can be found in C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Start
Menu/Programs/Startup. Remove Adobe Gamma if it resides in with
your other startup programs. Reboot the computer.
-
In Photoshop
or other applications from which color is viewed, check to be
sure there are no settings used that would override the spyder's
calibration profile.
In Photoshop click
on Edit/ Color
Settings and click the Advanced button. Then make each section
match the ones below-
-
Save, close Photoshop, and
restart the computer.
-
Once these steps are
complete, right click on the Kodak Evaluation target at the bottom
of the page and save it to your computer.
-
(Leave this webpage open
in Internet Explorer.) Open the Kodak Target image in Photoshop and
place this image in Photoshop beside the same image that is still
open in Internet Explorer.
-
If everything is set
correctly, they should match. (If not you may
want to re-calibrate your monitor with the spyder and restart the
computer afterwards.)
Proper calibration can be
challenging, but when used properly will certainly help your monitor
come closer to a prolab's processed photographs.
